The Foreshore Code
Yesterday, I received some welcome news about a litter issue I have been pursuing: CDC have agreed to deploy a temporary 240 wheelie bin in West Street, Selsey for the summer. The email telling me the good news arrived just as I got back from a local beach filming my contribution to an end of year staff video my school are sending students and parents.
Over the weekend, Donna and I got to work doing some garden clearance for her cared-for: thank you to the kind neighbours who offered space in their green bin to help us get rid of some of it. If you ventured out as well, you may have noticed that play areas have reopened - this is the advice from CDC about how to use them more safely: -
- If you have any symptoms related to coronavirus, such as a persistent cough or high temperature, return home and follow government advice;
- Try to play games, like football or throwing a Frisbee, that don't involve touching fixed play equipment - if you do, use hand sanitiser before and afterwards;
- If the park is too busy to socially distance, go back when it is quieter;
- If there is a queue please limit your time on the play equipment;
- If you have food or drink, take it to a quiet area of the park and make sure you clean your hands before eating; also, please, take your rubbish home to recycle or place it in a bin.
Two more pieces of advice CDC have sent our way are this useful leaflet about the Foreshore Code of Conduct, and this link which relates to safer cycling, and general use of our roads.
Something else that's come our way is "Great Inspirations" which celebrates some of the many UK businesses, organisations and individuals that have done extraordinary things during the pandemic.
Finally the Novium museum is reopening on July 28 - full details are here; however, like other local attractions, visits will need to be pre-booked, social distancing measures will be in place, hand sanitiser will be provided and a one-way system will be in operation.
Tomorrow, Donna has CDC's Planning Committee again (watch it live from 9.30am) and, as there are some applications in Sidlesham on the agenda, we went for one of our regular drive-arounds yesterday. Whilst we did, we availed ourselves of the opportunity to purchase some fresh produce. It occurred to me that you might like to test your local knowledge by seeing if you can work out our route based on what we bought and the order we bought it in: raspberries, eggs, green beans, courgettes and a bunch of sweet peas. If you can work out where we went, by all means get in touch.
Don't forget, our next post will be out on Friday - normally between 6 and 7 in the evening; however if you follow one of our social media accounts, you will know earlier.
As always, please stay safe
Tim
