Will this be 2050?
How much traffic do you think heads down from Chichester onto the Peninsula on a weekday morning, in term time, just before 6.30am? On Wednesday, I was surprised by the ‘snake’ following two lorries taking static caravans to Selsey. I know a lot of people commute out, like myself - many travel inside the M25 too. What surprised me was that there were many more than I had expected travelling in the opposite direction to me so early in the day.
Our District’s beaches are a big lure and even though it is not the holidays yet, presumably some of the traffic has been tourists. Last week I came across an article on East Wittering in a London newspaper and this week I spotted one on West Wittering that appeared in Surrey and in Hampshire. Other Sussex stories included unusual things you can do, beauty spots and unflattering reviews of well known landmarks.
You may welcome the current rise in property prices but, before counting on any future windfalls, might want to have a look at this search tool from Climate Central. Other environmental news includes tech firms using remote monitoring to help honey bees and, something which may not be such good news for our more rural communities, the possible end of many petrol stations as electric cars grow in number.
At CDC’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee this week, we agreed that the District’s themed Recovery Teams have achieved their aims and should be discontinued, except for the Economic one which we recommended should be turned into a standing Panel like those for Development and the Environment: It will be politically balanced, and I also was assured that it would be geographically balanced too.
On Wednesday evening Donna and I attended parish meetings in Sidlesham and Selsey. This coming week, there is a special CDC meeting to adopt the Selsey and Boxgrove Neighbourhood Plans after they were approved in their recent referendums.
And finally: -
This is the latest snapshot of the impact of Covid on the County economy ;
Chichester and Worthing hospitals are trialling a “Home in Comfort” scheme;
There have been concerns about the Boundary Commission’s proposed new Parliamentary Constituencies because they propose to divide our District between three constituencies, rather than two.
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe
Tim
