As promised
Like you, our thoughts continue to be with the people of Ukraine. Before the Special Full CDC on Tuesday (whilst I was driving down from school) Donna took part in a solidarity photo with other Members. In light of the continuing situation. We are again including the links we shared last week, but if you are considering a financial donation, the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal is recommended.
Do you like a good view? If so, which ones top your list? I suspect if you do like a good view you have been to at least one of these spots. Then there are 15 beautiful spots in our county Global Grasshopper recommend, and 40 hidden Sussex gems. Plum's Guide also rates our area highly, as their suggestions demonstrate.
Moving on to campaigns, the Arundel Bypass proposals are in the news again, because they are proving of concern to people of all ages, including the children whose primary school is close to the proposed route. There is a new campaign to help us all make six simple shifts to help combat global warming, Take The Jump, which makes for interesting reading. (I think my score is 4.)
Weigh Better Life, a popular free course run by CDC that aims to help people in our District improve their health and wellbeing and achieve sustainable weight loss, has been extended with new dates for 2022. The 12-week course is free of charge. You can sign up or find out more information by emailing.
CDC's Choose Work programme will benefit from a further £62,857 from the West Sussex Economic Recovery Fund to deliver employment and training support over the next three years Through coaching, mentoring, providing information, advice and guidance, residents who take part are given help to identify where they want to get to and to work out an action plan to help them get there.
It was International Women's Day last week, so I thought I would include something Donna posted about it: "Slightly late, but as we recognised International Women's Day this week, it's worth noting that all three opposition leaders at West Sussex are actually women. It's still sometimes an issue for women to break through, and gender bias definitely still exists, (a few months ago I was called 'Miss' Independent by a senior male councillor) but we are getting there. Respect to all the women still operating in a largely male environment!"
As I mentioned earlier, this week Donna and I had the Budget Special Full CDC where a £5 increase in their portion of Council Tax bills was agreed. The ordinary bi-monthly Full CDC is this coming Tuesday, which is the day after I have the Corporate Governance and Finance Committee. Donna, meanwhile, has CDC’s Economic Development Panel on Wednesday.
Looking further ahead, sixty years of artistic and cultural achievement across our District will be celebrated at a new exhibition in The Novium this June. ‘The Art of Chichester: 60 Years of Creativity’ will explore the arts, culture of the district from 1962 — when Chichester Festival Theatre opened — to the present day, embracing professional and amateur work across all art forms. The exhibition has been made possible thanks to an Arts Council England Project Grant and opens on Saturday, 25 June and will run until 25 February 2023, replacing the Brick Wonders exhibition, which closes on Sunday 5 June.
Nominations closed today for the two Selsey Town Council by-elections on April 7th. As promised we are pleased to announce our candidate for Selsey North is Mick Weller, husband of @CouncillorValWeller, who came out of retirement during the first lockdown to deliver fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries to our residents, and helps with Selsey Town Council’s Christmas lights. Our candidate for Selsey South is Dan Gregory, landlord of The Crown Inn Selsey, who in the last six years has transformed it into one of the most highly rated pubs in our area on TripAdvisor. We have noticed that the opposing candidate in Selsey North shares Donna and my surname but, to my knowledge, we are not related in any way.
