In our thoughts
What is going on in Ukraine is understandably high in all our minds. Many people want to, or are, helping in any way they can. Others like Rolls Royce, who have suspended shipping cars to Russia, are making a statement about how they view recent events. At my school, which is inside the M25, we have been sent a list of specific clothing, children's and food items by a known local charity. There are a couple of links to what we believe to be reputable groups at the end of this post, but if you are considering a cash donation you might prefer the Disasters Emergency Committee as the Government are match funding their appeal up to a limit of £20 million.
We often mention the respect we have for, and pride in, our area's small businesses and independent traders. We similarly value everyone who is involved in any sort of voluntary work. One example of this is a woman marking her 30th birthday by donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust. Incidentally, we help several small groups in various ways, behind the scenes, so feel free to get in touch if we might be able to help you too.
This week's interesting reads, include an article about a housing response, 'Eton new town' and how Google Maps was used to see what is happening in Ukraine. On the subject of maps, an artist has drawn a map of West Sussex in the style of Lord of the Rings. Keeping with a medieval theme, A village in our District with a pub dating back to 1557 has been ranked the ninth most beautiful in the UK and Ireland. That is not entirely surprising because our area often gets recognised for its varied but beautiful landscape.
The March madness in terms of Council meetings continues this week with the Budget Special Full CDC. Donna and I are also respectively dealing with a number of separate cases at the moment to do with housing and other issues.
Looking slightly ahead, due to a change of agenda items, CDC’s next Corporate Governance and Audit Committee on the 14th will now take place virtually. The meeting will be webcast live here, as will the meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee on the 22nd.
Next week, we will be announcing the names of our Selsey Town Council by-election candidates.
Finally: -
CDC's Cross, Market & More returns to Chi on Sunday 13 March.
This is the Facebook page of Sussex Aid for Refugees.
This is a children's charity helping in Ukraine.
Refilled Chichester are taking donations of things like clothes.
This is CDC’s Calendar of Meetings, and this is WSCC's.
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
