Some like it...
Whilst our thoughts continue to stay with Ukraine, we are again including charitable links at the end of this post. CDC has also created a web page, which lists the many ways people can help. West Sussex have published information on refugee resettlement. Lastly, this is the Government Homes for Ukraine website.
Have you ever been to the Grand Canyon? Apparently there is a ‘mini’ version of it much nearer to us in Peacehaven. I have not and may never do so because Donna is less keen on hot places and the temperature can reach 49 degrees Celsius, so if you do, send me a picture.
Recently, a West Sussex village notched the highest temperature this year here at home, a modest 22 degrees Celsius. I find the Peninsula a clement spot, slightly milder in the winter than inland areas on my commute, and in Hersham where I teach, and then on the most humid days a little fresher and less clammy in general. If you fancy venturing out for a gentle walk, these are TripAdvisor’s best parks in Sussex. Additionally, we are in the midst of English Tourism Week so here are some other possibilities.
Walking is not the best of subjects to raise with the Team at the moment because we have finished delivering our main literature across Selsey for the upcoming by elections, but in the process have walked 100,000s of steps between us in the last week or so, as well as erecting signage and making other preparations, so it's a good thing that many hands make light work.
The most humbling part, I find, is the increasing number of people who greet us warmly whenever we are out and about.
History lovers might be interested in the pictures in this story, of a house virtually untouched for 80 years and therefore unchanged since the 1930s. If you are interested in history and like walking, there's a roman road nearby parts of which you can safely stroll along.
In less welcome news, overdue and reserving charges are to be reintroduced at West Sussex libraries. A fisherman has a novel solution to a different higher charge he is facing, the uncomfortable rise in the price of diesel.
It has been a busy week away from the Campaign trail. The meetings go on, as does helping residents. To give you a couple of examples I have recently helped an elderly lady living alone who had scaffolding left up outside her window for 9 weeks, and a local business in their dealings with CDC.
Donna spoke at the Public Enquiry regarding the 'severing' of the Manhood for parliamentary purposes. Both Selsey Town and Chichester Fistrictatronly objected to this as did oter Parishes across our Peninsula.
I had a minor victory at CDC’s Overview & Scrutiny Committee when we were asked to consider the scope for East Pallant House options appraisal by getting a commitment to also consider existing CDC property, including the Novium (because it and EPH are a sizeable chink of CDC's budget) as well as the suggested alternate uses, new build or considering other existing sites.
Finally: -
This is the Facebook page of Sussex Aid for Refugees.
This is a children's charity helping in Ukraine.
Refilled Chichester are taking donations of things like clothes.
This is CDC’s Calendar of Meetings, and this is WSCC's.
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
