Welcome to this week's blog. As always, thank you for sparing the time to have a read..

On Monday Mick and Val represented us at CDC’s All Parishes meeting (Donna and I were eagerly awaiting the birth of our second grandchild, another boy.) On Tuesday Donna Chaired the latest CDC Overview and Scrutiny Committee and afterwards posted: -

We discussed Social Prescribing, a non clinical service which can help with issues which don't actually require a medical intervention. This can be things such as social isolation, anxiety and low level depression. Social prescribers can offer solutions, and give support to people, helping them through difficult times, and enabling  access to other services. It's a very valuable provision. Although you can be referred via a medical professional, you can also self-refer. The service is available to all ages, from just 13.

Next week Steve has CDC’s Parking Forum on Monday. On Tuesday, Steve, Val, Donna and I have Full CDC which includes a proposal to redevelop the bus station in the City. Stagecoach would relocate to a new depot facility, which would mean they could electrify their fleet of buses.

On Wednesday Val and Donna have CDC’s Planning then Ian and Andrew, Donna and I have the next Liaison Meeting at STC. That is followed by the Finance and Administration Group then their Planning Committee. Watch CDC’s public meetings

We are still in the Arun & Chichester Food Partnership first Good Food Fortnight. There are over 70 different events and activities. The programme is now available and it runs until October 6th. We have a new caterer at my school and are quite impressed. Paediatricians are arguing that all primary school children should be given a free school lunch due to particular health concerns as you can read here.

Another interesting read is that architects have designed an underground house they hope to build in the SDNP.

In case you have not heard, the Cross Market and More on Sunday has been postponed and the Chichester Recycling Centre at Westhampnett moves to winter hours from October 2, 9am to 4pm, but is closed on Tuesdays.

With the recent cooler weather you will either have put your heating on or thought about it. CDC offer advice, including a leaflet that summarises all of the different grant schemes that you may be able to access. If you’re unsure what grant or grants you may be eligible for, the Citizens Advice Energy Team can help.

The Novium Museum is asking for help to save an important piece of local historic treasure through the launch of a new crowd funding campaign. The rare Anglo-Saxon gold and garnet pyramidical sword mount, which was discovered in 2022 near Stopham, dates back to AD 600-700 and is only the second of its kind to be found in West Sussex. The only other example of this type of sword mount was acquired by the British Museum in 1981. However, this first find was incomplete making the Stopham mount a very rare and incredibly important discovery for the area.

Thanks to an Arts Council England/V&A Purchase Grant Fund, and a donation from the landowner, The Novium Museum is one step away from acquiring this unique piece of local history. It is hoped that the museum can raise the remaining £9,000 needed to purchase the find through a new crowdfunding campaign. If successful, this will enable the museum to keep this local treasure within the district and display it for the local and wider community to enjoy.

WSCC is inviting residents to share their views on proposals for future transport improvements along the A259 between Bognor Regis and Chichester. The scheme forms part of WSCC’s wider transport plan which includes making walking, cycling, and use of public transport more attractive options for local journeys. It is hoped the suggested upgrades will help improve the flow of traffic and encourage more trips by public transport, walking and cycling. They include a range of measures such as improving junctions, adding bus priority measures, enhancing bus stops, creating additional space for cycling and walking, and introducing new crossing points. Full details of the route and proposals can be found on the consultation page.

Finally: -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
