This week Andrew, Ian, Donna and I had an STC Personnel Committee Meeting at 6pm on Wednesday before the whole team joined us for Full Council at 7.30pm. Amongst the items considered were draft budget proposals for 2025/26, several community grant applications, parking issues in the High Street and the control of dogs in Town Council parks. This coming week, Donna and Val have CDC’s Planning on Wednesday.. Watch CDC’s public meetings.

For most of this year, Mick and Val, helped by Mike, have been mending and fixing Selsey's civic Christmas lights ready for this coming weekend’s switch-on. Storm Bert caused the cancellation of several events last weekend so, all being well, we’ll have good weather tomorrow. The High Street in Selsey is closed from 12:00 when Santa's Grotto opens; the lights go on at 6pm. The Friends of East Beach's event begins at 2.30pm, with the lights going on at 5pm. Snow is guaranteed, we understand!  I am having a busman’s holiday and running the queue for Santa, while a few Councillors are marshalling

Don’t forget: -

  • Midhurst’s lights switch on is December 6th from 5pm to 8pm while Petworth’s Christmas Cracker is Saturday the 7th from 11am to 7pm. From December 7th to 15th, the City has a programme of events in The Guildhall in Priory Park. The Christmas Market also returns to the City from the 9th.

  • CDC has teamed up with St Wilfrid’s Hospice for their Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme and Selsey Town Council’s Offices are an official donation point for the V2 Radio Christmas Toy Appeal, which is asking for new, unwrapped toys.

  • The Novium is running their annual Gonk Trail throughout December - £1.50 per child, including a small treat, if you find all those pesky gonks! Great fun for the family. Simply pop into the museum and get your trail from reception.

UK Harvest have posted this: -

It’s next week! Get ready to support us as we take part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge.

Every family deserves to have a joyous festive celebration! You can help make this happen by supporting UKHarvest's Christmas Challenge. All donations made between 3rd - 10th December will be matched while funds last, so if you're planning to donate to an impactful, community focused charity this winter, donate whatever you can to UKHarvest to help support families and households in need. 1 in 5 households with children in the UK are experiencing food poverty. Now's the time to help make a difference through our Big Give Christmas Challenge.

Our interesting reads this week are nine foods you should stop eating once you are 50 and, thanks to Tim Spector and the team at Zoe, the effect coffee has on your gut

Prior to the recent cold, damp weather leading to new potholes, you may have noticed our roads seemed to be improving. WSCC has repaired almost 40,000 safety related defects on highways across our County. WSCC report that more than 95% of pothole repairs - around 18,000 - were completed using the ‘sides sawn and sealed’ method and 9,600 - approximately 10,500sqm - using the velocity patchers we have previously told you about.

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
