December 13, 2024
Welcome to this weeks blog: thank you for sparing the time to have a read.
The two most significant meetings this week both involved Donna: on Tuesday she Chaired CDC’s Overview and Scrutiny Meeting and today, Friday, she had Full WSCC. Next Wednesday is the first meeting of CDC’s Regeneration Board. As Leader of the Opposition, I am a Member but, as with other meetings like the Budget Review Group, there are often clashes with school: this week I have a Year 11 parents’ evening. CDC are fully aware of this so, as with the Budget Review Group, Donna will deputise for me.
Watch CDC’s public meetings.
Next week will be our last blog of 2024 so don’t forget until the 15th, the City has a programme of events in The Guildhall in Priory Park, CDC has teamed up with St Wilfrid’s Hospice for their Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme, Selsey Town Council’s Offices are an official donation point for the V2 Radio Christmas Toy Appeal, and The Novium is running their annual Gonk Trail throughout December. You might also want to check your bin day on CDC’s website.
Not everyone will have a roof over their head this Christmas: CDC delivers dedicated Rough Sleeper Outreach support across our District, in collaboration with Stonepillow. We are also fortunate to have a number of charities working together to help those on the streets. Heart for Homeless and The Four Streets Project ensure food is available to those in need 365 days of the year and signpost them to appropriate services to access the support they need. CDC is once again encouraging us to ‘Make Your Change Count’ by supporting these charities, rather than giving money directly to those who are asking for money on the street and make a lasting change and real difference to their lives.
CDC’s main offices at East Pallant House, Chichester, will be closed from 12pm midday on Xmas Eve until Thursday 2 January. You can still access services online and if you have an emergency during this time call 01243 785339. Parking issues can be reported online at: www.chichester.gov.uk/applyreportpay. If you have any queries about roads, pavements and street lighting, or need to report a fault relating to them, you can contact WSCC by calling 01243 777100 .
Our interesting read this week relates to sleep, something at some point we all want more of. Apparently magnesium can help, as you can read in more depth here.
In January to work off the holiday excess, you could try the free HeartSmart walks run by Chichester Well-being. They take place at different locations across our District and cater for all ages and abilities and are available for booking until the end of January 2025.
In response to concerns about negative dog-related incidents in their parks, STC is inviting people to participate in a short survey, which is open until Friday, 21 February 2025. If you prefer, you can complete a paper version available at the Town Council Offices during opening hours (Monday to Friday, 10:00 am–3:00 pm).
Finally: -
As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
Tim
