December 20, 2024

Welcome to our last blog of 2024 - thank you to everyone who's made time for a read.

Our first post of 2025 will be after the festivities, so don’t forget CDC has teamed up with St Wilfrid’s Hospice for their Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme and The Novium is running their annual Gonk Trail throughout December. You might also want to check your bin day on CDC’s website

As usual, we are being urged to recycle more over Christmas and to only buy what we are going to use. Food-saving tips and waste minimisation advice can be found at:  www.westsussex.gov.uk/ThinkBeforeYouThrow.

If you take the opportunity over Christmas to have a clear out of old electricals or clothes, it’s worth checking whether you are in the trial area to use the CDC’s free kerbside textile and small electrical collection service. To find out more and to book a collection, please visit www.chichester.gov.uk/textileandelectricalrecycling. This service now also includes used coffee pod recycling collection in partnership with Podback. Simply register at www.podback.org to get started.

CDC is also once again encouraging us to ‘Make Your Change Count’ by helping to  support the local charities they work with to combat Rough Sleeping: Stonepillow, Heart and the Four Streets Project.

CDC’s main offices at East Pallant House, Chichester, will be closed from 12pm midday on Christmas Eve until Thursday 2 January. You can still access services online and if you have an emergency during this time call 01243 785339.

You may not be aware that there is such a thing as the White Ribbon Promise, a personal commitment to never use, excuse or remain silent about violence against women. You can also sign up as a White Ribbon Ambassador or Champion, wear a White Ribbon and share and promote information on this important subject. For those experiencing abuse, Christmas can be just another day of danger. Excessive drinking, financial pressure and people spending more time at home are all reasons that domestic abuse statistically rises over the festive period. This December WORTH Services will be visiting vulnerable victim-survivors of domestic abuse with Sussex Police as part of the joint engagement strategy Operation Hope.

A week or so ago, a family member observed that there haven't been any new Christmas songs for some time. A few days later I came across an article predicting Wham would take the Christmas No 1 spot this year with “Last Christmas” which was first released 40 years ago. I remember it well because I was a mobile DJ at the time. The article also mentioned a newer Christmas song from Tom Grennan, which I think you might conclude is not too bad even if it is not quite on a par with the ‘classics.’ There was even speculation it might even beat Wham to the top spot.

For the drivers amongst you, here's a quiz to test how well you know your dashboard lights. I am pleased to say I got all 9 correct the first time.

Finally: -

We hope you have a blessed time this Festive season and, as always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
