Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read. CDC has found some very small pieces of palm oil on Selsey beach (and it has also been found on some of Arun District Council’s beaches.) Although the substance is harmless to humans, as a precaution you should not touch it. Dog owners should keep their animals away from any white substance that they may find on the beach as palm oil can make them very unwell. If anyone finds what they think is palm oil then please report it by phoning 01243 785166 Please make sure, in regards to Sussex devolution, you have your say on the Mayoralty . This week Steve, Val, Donna, our Green colleague Sarah and I had CDC’s budget meeting on Tuesday. All the items considered related to this because, as it was the budget meeting, there were no questions to the Executive and a motion from the Conservative group was withdrawn.  In my reply to the budget, as Leader of the Opposition, I said from a local perspective it was rightly “Steady as s...

Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read. Last week Ali liked my mention of Donna coming home to flowers from her self-styled *Mystery Man” on Valentine’s Day. She is a bit of a romantic too and proposed to her husband on Valentine’s Day 51 years ago, just over a year after they met. In 1973 she walked up to him at a Corporal's Mess Disco her friends had taken her to - they all had army boyfriends and she was left on her own in the bar: -  “ There was a soldier further down the bar wearing a camouflage kit. I went up to him and said: "Why are you wearing a jungle suit? If you want to disappear, you should be wearing a brick suit"  His reply .... "Go away little girl and stop being so pathetic".  We laughed and chatted all evening.  Next night I went, he was the DJ playing Northern Soul. I waved my arms and said "It's me, the pathetic little girl"  The rest is history …” In regards to Sussex devolution, the Government consultation ...

Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read. We want to start by thanking the maintenance staff at Selsey Town Council who quickly put their other jobs on hold this week to sort out the “Welcome to Selsey” sign when it was damaged last weekend.  We should also thank Mick and Val who are back at work on Selsey’s Xmas lights. They were even doing so with one small heater until Ali lent them some more.  The Unitary Council proposals for Sussex have to be sent to the Government by March 21st. Once agreed there will be a consultation ahead of the final decision in September. The government would prefer boundaries to be based on existing districts. Our Unitary is likely to be a similar size to North Yorkshire, which has one Unitary Councillor for every 7000 residents. This will not affect statutory services: it is hoped devolution might unlock new powers and investment and give us a stronger voice in how national decisions affect us. If you want to learn more, The...

Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read. Selsey Town Council has an administrative vacancy - https://www.selseytowncouncil.gov.uk/article/39568/Job-Opportunity-to-work-at-Selsey-Town-Council We learnt this week that the Sussex devolution bid has been successful . This year’s County elections are being postponed to give Councils time to develop proposals for their reorganisation. We will be electing a Sussex mayor next year and possibly three new Unitary Authorities at the same time or in 2027. (A consultation about them will be held later this year.) The Government has written to the affected Councils urging them to work together on a joint proposal. You may remember that a new Unitary Authority would replace WSCC and CDC. East Sussex is the government's preferred size of over 500,000 residents for a new Unitary. West Sussex is significantly larger, so part of it may join Brighton & Hove, which only has 280,000 residents, but we will continue to keep you post...
