Welcome to this week’s blog - thanks for having a read.

CDC has found some very small pieces of palm oil on Selsey beach (and it has also been found on some of Arun District Council’s beaches.) Although the substance is harmless to humans, as a precaution you should not touch it. Dog owners should keep their animals away from any white substance that they may find on the beach as palm oil can make them very unwell. If anyone finds what they think is palm oil then please report it by phoning 01243 785166

Please make sure, in regards to Sussex devolution, you have your say on the Mayoralty.

This week Steve, Val, Donna, our Green colleague Sarah and I had CDC’s budget meeting on Tuesday. All the items considered related to this because, as it was the budget meeting, there were no questions to the Executive and a motion from the Conservative group was withdrawn.

In my reply to the budget, as Leader of the Opposition, I said from a local perspective it was rightly “Steady as she goes.” I recognised the impact of Local Government Reform and the financial constraints that it imposes in terms of drawing on reserves. I also recognised the current constraints stemming from national fiscal policy since 2010. I thanked the Leader, Adrian Moss, for fulfilling his promise to me last year to develop a new District housing strategy and for the retention of some parking incentives in rural car parks and other initiatives to help our small businesses. I expressed the hope that CDC would consider continuing to prioritise housing and small businesses and finished by thanking the Leader for the provision of funding for Selsey’s sea defences. The net revenue budget was set at £20,438,000 with a £189,300 surplus allocated to a new Community Assets grant programme.

On Tuesday Donna will be Chairing CDC’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee at 2pm. On Wednesday the team have a very short Extraordinary Full STC to consider one item (which may be decided in private session) before Ian, Andrew, Mick, Val, Ali and Gareth have STC’s Planning Committee at 7.30pm.

You can watch meetings live: CDC and WSCC.

On Sunday March 16th the Cross Market & More returns to the City, while two days later on the 18th it is Selsey's Annual Town Meeting in the Selsey Centre at 6.30pm. Also in the Selsey Centre, in April, there are drop-in exhibitions about the options for possible new sea defences.

You may not realise that, although it is right not to overindulge, some cheeses may have certain health benefits: - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/diet/nutrition/what-cheese-does-to-your-body/

The scheduled coastal maintenance work from East Wittering to Selsey are set to last for the next two weeks. It includes replacing and repairing beacons, repairs to timber grounds, removal of metalwork and concrete repairs to the apron at East Beach near Lifeboat Way, Selsey. Standard working hours will be from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday but tide times may result in instances where work extends beyond these hours.

Finally: -

As always, from the whole Team, stay safe.
